So Long, Farewell, Adieu

means we'll be losing players to their respective colleges.
Vanessa Rodrigue will be returning to San Francisco State University for
her sophomore year as a starting second baseman and Emi Snow will be

great having both women participate for the summer. The coaches

attempt to gain a berth in the ASA Gold National tournament the So Cal
Select went 3-2 in the ASA Sector qualifier here this weekend. The

eventually went on to qualify, on Sunday morning. "Our players

Select Fares Well in
Clovis
Westminster, CA - 7/4/2004 - Spending the
Fourth of July weekend in hot and dusty Clovis, California is not what
most people would consider a vacation. However, the Select were in
town for the ASA Regional qualifiers. They started of the weekend
hot by defeating Minor's Gold team in the tournament opener by a score
of 4-0. They continued to play hot defeating Girls in Black 10-9
in an extra inning thriller that found all of the bats working. In
the qualifying game against the San Jose Strike Zone the Select were
shut out by a powerful college pitcher that had great movement on the
ball losing 3-0.
For the tournament Emi Snow batted a blistering .500
including a home run. Emi also hit a hard double off the center
field fence on a pitch that was too near the plate while being
intentionally walked. LaNae Rodriguez, continuing her hitting
prowess, batted .455 for the weekend. Megan Ackerman, playing her
first games since ankle surgery in March, had a .625 on base average.
Select Friendly A Great
Success
Westminster, CA - 6/27/2004 - The Select
hosted an 8-way friendly today and by all accounts it was a great
success. All of the teams appeared to match up well and there was
a chance for teams to exercise all their players for the important
upcoming tournament week. The weatherman cooperated as well keeping it
cool in the morning and sunny and beutiful in the afternoon.
A thanks to all of the Select parents who put in so much effort to make
the friendly run smoothly.
Select Gold Wins Again in
Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV - 6/13/2004 - Bucking the
odds the So Cal Select Gold went
to Las Vegas and won, but it wasn't on the blackjack tables, they did it
on
the fields. The Select Gold team went to the LV Junior Olympic college
showcase tournament and performed well, losing only one out of five
games
played.
The loss came in the last game Sunday at the hands of the Washington
Spirit Gold team who had beaten Gary Hanings Batbuster team 6-1 in the
game prior to playing the Select. In the last inning the Spirit came
from behind and beat the Select by only one run.
Until that late inning rally the Select defense was hot, holding the
prior four teams to only two total runs. Excellent hitting, pitching
and smart fielding, proved to be the keys to the success of this team.
The softball Gold circuit is beginning to buzz about the success of this
year's Select team.
This tournament was wall to wall with college coaches from all parts of
the country, watching the Select team perform at their peak. It was a
time to shine and the Select players definitely made an impression at
just the right time.
"I'm very proud of how the team played this weekend," said head coach
Randy Harrison, "we have shown improvement in every game and we're just
working on tweaking the little things now". Our players didn't wilt in
the 105+ degree heat and pressured their opponents to the end. We look
forward to a successful summer."
The Select gets down to real business this coming weekend, as they
attend the ASA Gold Regional national qualifier tournament in Anaheim
Hills, California.
Selects Continues To Perform
Anaheim Hills
- 5/31/2004 - Attending the prestigious USA Athletics Summer
Kickoff in Orange County this weekend, the So Cal Select continued to
perform well. With most of the roster back intact they were now
able to play as full unit. While starting the weekend off with two
losses they were able to hold the Batbusters to a close one-run game.
Then they went on a 3 game win streak including wins over the Las Vegas
Rebels and the host, and highly rated, USA Athletics team.
Eventually the Select lost in a close battle to the powerful Corona
Angels.
"We were just a couple of plays from being 5-1 this
weekend," said coach Randy Harrison, "but I see improvement with each
game. We've proven that we can play at the tier 1 level and I
expect more of the same as we continue the summer season."
The Select got key performances from it's pitching crew
which includes Tami Weston, Courtney Lyons and Sammi Shroeder to shut
down many of the country's best hitters.
The Select next travels to Las Vegas for the JO exposure
tournament.
Select Comes Out Strong
Rancho Cucamonga - 5/31/2004 - The So Cal Select had a strong
showing in their first tournament of the Summer 2004 season at the
American Pastime Memorial Day Classic. While the official record
was 3-3 they were only a few bad bounces away from being 5-1 in this
tournament that featured 32 of the best teams in Southern California.
"I'm very proud of the effort that the team put into this tournament,"
said head coach Randy Harrison, "we were short handed due to other
commitments and injuries and were down to only 9 players in our last
game yet we held our own deep into the tournament. This is the
time of the year when all teams are trying to figure out what they have
and I feel good about our team."
The Select, playing in 95+ degree temperatures in the
desert-like climate featured two come from behind victories that showed
the true character of this team. Long days that started at 8:30 am
and ending at 9:30 pm are a shock to the players used to playing only
one game a day in high school. "This is more like a national
tournament schedule on the first weekend of the summer," one fan was
heard to say, Yet the Select didn't crumble.
